Customer Questions
Do your kettles contains filters?
Yes all our kettles contain filters. Filters can be replaced during warranty period for wear and tear issue.
Can I heat other liquids besides water in my kettle?

No, the kettle is intended for heating water only. Do not use it to heat up any other liquids

Why does the noise of the kettle increase as the kettle comes to boil?

The water in this kettle is heated up rapidly, which causes the noise. This is a normal phenomenon and there is nothing wrong with your kettle.

How can I clean the outside of the kettle?

Clean the outside of the kettle and the base with a warm damp soft cloth. Do not let the moist cloth come into contact with the cord, the plug and the connector of the base.

Never immerse the kettle or its base in water and do not use abrasive cleaning agents such as scourers to clean the kettle.

What are the white spots on the bottom of my kettle?

Depending on the hardness of the water where you live, small spots may appear on the heating element of your kettle when you use it. This is the result of scale build-up on the heating element and on the inside of the kettle over time.

The harder the water, the faster scale builds up. Scale can occur in different colours and although scale is harmless, too much scale can influence the performance of your kettle. Descale your kettle regularly to pro long the life of your kettle.

Can I use the kettle without the anti-scale filter?

While the kettle will still function without the anti-scale filter, the flow of the pour may not be as smooth and there may even be a little ‘spitting’ during the boil with a full kettle. And of course, the function of filtering out minerals from getting into the cup will not be there. We would recommend always using the anti-scale filter. While some are metal, many of our kettles use a plastic anti-scale filter – these are all BPA-free and food safe, and will not affect the water taste.

Do I need to descale my kettle?

Yes, you have to descale your kettle regularly. Minerals present in tap water will cause scale to build up inside your kettle when water is heated.

Regularly descaling your kettle will help to: reduce the boiling time and save energy, keep the inside of the kettle clean and extend the kettles life.

Regular descaling prolongs the life of the kettle. We recommend that you descale regularly - at least monthly.

You must only use a descaler that is suitable for use in plastic products. If you use a descaling agent, follow the instructions on the bottle or package to descale your kettle.

The kettle doesn't work. What should I do?

This problem may have multiple causes:

The appliance is not connected to the mains.
The dry-boil protection has been activated.
The kettle needs to be descaled.
Below you can find the solutions for each of these causes.

Solution Cause 1: The appliance is not connected to the mains. Check if the plug of the kettle has been inserted properly into the wall socket and if the wall socket is working.

Solution Cause 2: The dry-boil protection has been activated. The dry-boil protection is a safety feature that automatically switches off the kettle. It will be activated if the kettle is switched on with insufficient or no water inside or if all of water inside the kettle has evaporated during operation.

To reset the dry-boil protection, you have to lift the kettle from its base and fill it with cold water. When you place the kettle back on the base, the dry-boil protection is reset and you can switch the kettle on again.

Solution Cause 3: The kettle needs to be descaled.

If the above solution(s) did not help to solve your problem, please contact the Russell Hobbs Consumer Service Department on 0345 658 9700.

Why is water ejected from the spout during heating up?

This indicates that the kettle has been filled beyond the maximum level indication.

For safety reasons, you should never fill the kettle beyond the MAX indication on your water level indication window.

There is water/condensation on the base of the kettle. Is this normal?

If you find some condensation or a few drops of water on the base, this is not a manufacturing defect but a normal occurrence.

However, if you see more water than just a few drops on the base or under the base, please contact the Russell Hobbs Consumer Service Department on 0345 658 9700.

The water boiled in this kettle tastes metallic. How can I improve the taste?

Try descaling the kettle according to the descale procedure. Rinse carefully afterwards.

If this does not help, please contact the Russell Hobbs Consumer Service Department on 0345 658 9700.

Why does it take a longer time for the water to boil?

If the water boiling procedure has slowed down, the heating element of the kettle is probably covered with scale. Descale the kettle to remove the scale and revert back to quick boiling.

How can I descale the kettle and how often should I do this?

You must only use descaler suitable for use in plastic products. If you use a descaling agent, follow the instructions on the bottle or package to descale your kettle.

Regular descaling prolongs the life of the kettle. Kettles should be descaled regularly - at least monthly.

Contact your local or regional water board for information on the hardness of your tap water. If you use the kettle more than 5 times a day, you may have to descale it more often.

Regularly descaling your kettle will help to pro long the life of your kettle, keep the inside of the kettle clean and reduce boiling times which will then reduce energy consumption.

Can I throw away my kettle with the normal household waste at the end of its life?

No, to preserve the environment please hand it in at an official collection point for recycling or you can return to us and we will recyle it for you.

Our addresses for recycling is; WEEE Recycling Department, Russell Hobbs Ltd, Heathmill Road, Wombourne, Wolverhampton WV5 8AQ or WEEE Recycling Department, Russell Hobbs Ltd, Fir Street, Failsworth, Manchester, M35 0HS.

What happens when I accidentally switch on the kettle with no water or not enough water?

This kettle is equipped with boil-dry protection. The kettle will automatically switch off if it is accidentally switched on when there is no water or not enough water in it.

To use it again lift the kettle from its base and fill it with cold water to reset boil-dry protection. The kettle is now ready for use again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointment Was highly rated by Which Magazine, but really not good for older people who may struggle with a pour that spills over the sides of the spout. If you're only making a couple of cups you need to lift it quite high to empty it into each cup, and it doesn't so much pour as just spill over - much of it missing the cup entirely. On the plus side it looks really nice, boils quickly, and isn't too noisy at all. It's well made and is good value for money. But, because of the poor design re spout and fat base resulting in higher lift, I just can't recommend this to anyone as in my view it's a possible accident waiting to happen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good kettle nice a quick. Pouring a bit rubbish! Bought this kettle because I wanted a glass kettle so I can keep on top of the limescale build up (we live in a very hard water area). Easy to see how much you fill up so you don't boil too much. Limescale cleans off easy with a vinegar soak and because you see it, you know when to clean it. Only downside is the pouring lip looks like it will pour nice but it's erratic! I do spill a bit trying to get the water into a mug if I'm not careful. I do think I'm going to crack it at some point as I keep knocking it on my tap but fingers crossed it's taken the hits like a champ so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Functional and stylish Very pleased with this kettle. The boil time is very quick even when full. The handle is well placed and aids balancing for a steady pour. The spout guides the water well, so no splashing. As the spout is formed into the glass, I prefer to remove the lid to fill the kettle. My previous kettle's had button release lid's for filling. As these were the main reason they failed, it's nice to go back to a removable lid. The lid is quick and easy to remove, although an alignment feature incorporated into the design of the lid to align with the spout or the handle would enhance the kettle. That's the only minor gripe as you can easily look down the spout. Overall, very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from “When it boils down to it” Brought this a couple of weeks ago after my old kettle gave up after 8 long years (my fault I let it boil dry by accident) that being said this one has an anti boil dry mechanism? Don’t want to be testing it out in a hurry but hopefully that works! Nice looking kettle, wasn’t bothered about what it looked like too much as long as it boiled water. However as kettles go it’s sleek design, lights up blue when boiling which easily pleased me, gives me something to zone out on when I need 5 minutes break from the house hold! Makes a nice change from zoning out to the washing machine on spin haha. Can make several drinks, not too heavy, has a filter spout, sits on a circular mount so putting it back on is easy. So far so good. Opted for this over budget version as warranty was longer. In long run worked out same kind of value based on that. Like I say the anti boil dry was an added bonus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this kettle This is the second time I’ve owned this kettle. It looks sophisticated, smart and does the job. My most recent kettle has a really bad habit of just turning itself off for no reason mid-boil. So this kettle has most of the plus points that you need with a kettle. It has attractive blue light, a fast boil and makes a good cuppa. It also does a great job with its 1 cup boil, a energy & money saver. 3 negatives though: 1. It’s advertised as a “glass kettle,” it actually is glass, so keep that in mind as you put it in its holder 2. It’s a little noisy 3. The pouring spout isn’t designed well, so you need to remove the lid each time to fill it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Attractive looking kettle This kettle is attractive looking, sturdy and easy to use. It lights up (blue) when switched on and light goes off when the water has boiled. The water boils very quickly. It is easy to fill tho have to remove the lid to do that, compared to some where it can be filled via the spout. Due to it being glass, the exterior of the kettle is hot to touch once water is boiled, so care to be taken when using. The spout is quite wide so care to be taken on pouring - worth noting this when considering purchase. I really like the sturdiness of this kettle and the way it looks, the quick boil time is also a plus. I would definitely recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed review It's a kettle and it boils water - however - it is noisier than my previous kettle, it is a messy pourer and the lid is more of a faff than I expected. Instead of being able to pop the lid open with one thumb it is a 2 hand job. Minor inconveniences but not sure I'd buy the same kettle again.
