Customer Questions
My iron doesn't produce any steam.

Answer 1: The steam control may have been set to the no steam position. Set the steam control to a steam position.

Answer 2: There is no water in the tank and/or the settings are not set correctly.

Step 1: Ensure there is water in the tank.

Step 2: Set to the appropriate steam and temperature setting - When steam ironing, you must set the steam control to steam and the temperature control to a temperature equal to or higher than the steam symbol on the dial.

The mains power switches off when I switch my iron on or when the iron is in use. Can the appliance cause a power failure?

Step 1: Check that the connection to the plug is secure and not loose and also check how many appliances are using the same output. Failure could be caused by over current in your mains.

Step 2: Check the iron's power cord for visible signs of damage (e.g. kinks, flaring of the braiding). Remove the rest of the appliances and switch it on again.

Step 3: if the mains power goes off again, contact the Russell Hobbs Customer Service Department on 0345 658 9700.

The steam boost function or vertical steam boost function on my iron doesn't work.

Answer 1: The (vertical) steam boost function has been used too often within a very short period.

Put the iron in a horizontal position and wait for a while before using the (vertical) steam boost function again.

Answer 2: The iron is not hot enough. Set the temperature dial to a temperature suitable for steam ironing.

The Spray function or Spray button on my iron isn't working (properly).

Make sure there is enough water in the tank and check that the spray button is able to spring back on its own after pressing.

If the spray nozzle hole is blocked, you can clean it carefully with a sharp needle or pin.

The indicator light isn't working (properly).

Make sure the iron is plugged into a working mains power and set the temperature dial to a desired position.

It is normal for the orange pilot light to turn on and off during ironing. It comes on as the iron is heating up, and goes off when it is hot enough.

Smoke comes out of the appliance.

Some parts of the appliance have been slightly greased and as a result, the appliance may produce some smoke when it is switched on for the first time.

Also, if there is remaining water in the soleplate from the last usage, the smoke observed may actually be water evaporating. However, these will stop after a short while.

The soleplate coating is scratched/worn away.

Your iron has multiple thin layers of coating and light scratches will not impede the performance of the iron. You can continue using the iron as per normal.

My iron leaves shiny patches on fabrics.

Fabrics can acquire shiny patches if they are ironed at too high temperatures. Try a lower temperature setting.

Also, to prevent shiny patches, you can put a cloth (e.g. a tea towel) between the iron and the fabric.

What type of water should I use?

Your appliance has been designed to be used with tap water.

Water drips from the holes of the soleplate during ironing. What should I do?

There may be several reasons for this:

Your iron produces a lot of steam. Steam could have condensed on the ironing board cover, making it wet and cause water marks on your garment when the iron is pressed on it.
Ironing aids or fragrance water could have been added to the water tank. This can cause problems with the steaming function, causing water to leak. Use only tap water or distilled water or a mixture of these two types of water.
Steam setting is being used at too low a temperature - The steam function should be switched to "no steam" when using the iron at lower temperatures or the water tank shoud be emptied.
Steam surge/shot/spray being used too rigorously - try using these facilities more slowly.

Water drops appear on the garment during ironing or drip on to the floor.

The water droplets may appear on the garments when you have steam ironed for a while. This happens because steam has condensed on the ironing board.

Dry the wet spots on the garment and the ironing board cover by passing the iron over them without pressing the steam button. If the underside of the ironing board is wet, wipe it dry.

Make sure you use a mesh-top ironing board with a thick felt material as this minimises steam condensation on the ironing board.

How can I prevent stains on the soleplate?

Ironing synthetics at high temperatures can cause staining when synthetic material is scorched.

Synthetics or synthetic-mixed fabrics can only be ironed at the lowest temperature setting.

Always set the temperature acording to the type of clothing being ironed. If unsure, always start with a lower temperature.

How do I remove the stains on the soleplate?

To remove a stain, wipe the soleplate with a moist cotton cloth without heating up the iron.

For stubborn stains, soak a cotton rag or pot towel in water & lemon juice, then heat up the iron to 'max' temperature and run the soleplate over the rag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works better than my old iron The lead is longer than my old iron so I don't have to use extension lead. The press button and colour coded heat control is more precise and easier than the old dial method. It seems to heat up quickly and gives adequate steam, with the option of extra steam and spray if required. The filling 'jug' is tiny so I'm using my measuring jug. Special jug not necessary as the filling hole isn't too small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and easy to use Good quality iron with nice features such as temperature light. Very light and comfortable to hold, long flex and smart purple colour. Heats up really quickly and is smooth to use. The water tank (for steam) is quite large - you will need at least two fills of the small plastic jug provided. If living in a hard water area it is recommended that distilled/commercial ironing water is used instead of tap water, although the iron does have a descaling function as well. Happy with purchase so far.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok I was swayed by reviews which were very positive but can't say I am that impressed. It does iron well and is light but the lid for the fill cap is flimsy, hole is small and jug supplied tiny (glad I kept one from previous iron). The chord is nice and long but the chord is connected to the handle on top and gets in the way when holding it. We have only used the iron a few times and already the teflon is coming off the plate, lastly the temp button is annoying and the colours on the iron difficult to distinguish from each other, give me a knob to turn any day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best! This Russel Hobbs iron is superb! lightweight and so comfortable to use, (Ive arthritis in my hands so ease of use and weight were most important. Even with a full tank it’s still a lot lighter than any iron I’ve used before, tank is transparent so you can see exactly how much water you have with a large filling hole so really easy to put water in without spilling all over the iron. I love the temperature Colour changing light so there’s no accidental temperature error. The 3 metre cord is another bonus, especially when ironing things like sheets or duvet covers, plus it turns itself off if for any reason you leave it unattended and apparently it also automatically switches off if you were to knock it over. Absolutely recommend this lovely colour Russel Hobbs iron.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight and easy to use This is the 2nd time I have purchased this iron. Last one was sadly dropped just too many times :( This model seems a bit lighter, but makes quite a bit of noise with steam setting on. However, does not steam up the whole room when ironing. Good action. Only negative which is why not 5 stars, is that the sealed unit which houses the flex where it joins the iron is quite stiff and does sometimes catch on my wrist when I am moving the iron round the board or standing it at the end of the board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ironing made east with lightweight powerhouse [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this iron. The iron is so easy to use and changes temperatures with ease. The colour coded temperature makes it simple to know the correct temperature for the item you are ironing. It is able to iron multiple layers at once which cuts down the ironing time. The iron glides with no effort. It's very lightweight and very powerful. It has a nice design and feel to the iron, it has cut my ironing time by a third. One downside no clip to keep the cord gathered when not in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features and a long lead! Looked at a number of irons within my budget and this one ticked all the boxes in terms of price, design features and importantly a long lead! The temperature selection feature is way better than the typical dial that most irons have and I’ve never once mistakenly changed the temperature accidentally as some reviewers have found. I hate ironing with a passion but this iron definitely makes it more bearable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Iron I’ve ever used! I’ve been ironing for years and I can honestly say this is the best iron I’ve ever used. It’s everything you could want in an iron, nice and light, heats up/cools down fast, easy to control temp, good length of flex. Love the funky colour and the colour change temp control too. Great value for money, would definitely recommend
