Beef Bourguignon

This classic French casserole recipe is slow cooked for tender, juicy meat. This is a real family-friendly recipe that everyone will enjoy.

  • 50ml vegetable oil
  • 50g butter
  • 350g smoked back bacon
  • 800g diced chuck beef
  • 2 large carrots
  • 2 white onions
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 300ml red wine
  • 500ml beef stock
  • 40g tomato paste
  • 4 sprigs thyme, leaves
  • 300g button mushrooms
  • 3 bay leaves
  • Salt and ground black pepper


Serves 8-10

  1. Cut the beef into 2-3 cm pieces, remove the searing pot and place on the heat, add the oil and heat, fry the beef in batches until well browned, remove the pot from the heat and return all beef to the pot.

  2. Cut the bacon into 1-2 cm pieces, peel and cut the carrots into 1-2 cm pieces, dice the onions into approximately 1-2 cm pieces, finely chop the garlic, wash and quarter the mushrooms. Add all ingredients to pot, season, place the lid on top and cook on high for 8 hours.
