What can you cook in an air fryer?

29 March 2023

Air fryers have experienced a meteoric rise in recent years, with no signs of slowing down. The convenience and health benefits of air frying have captured the attention of us all, as air frying enables us to relish some of our favourite fried dishes with much less oil and fewer calories. It’s safe to say that air fryers have firmly established their position in modern kitchens and fast-paced lifestyles.

The Russell Hobbs Satisfry Air Fryer Collection is no different. With an air fryer to suit everyone, Russell Hobbs air fryers are game changers at mealtimes, cooking your favourite meals quickly and evenly, with little or no oil required.

But if you’ve never owned an air fryer or you’ve only recently purchased one, you may be wondering “What can I cook in an air fryer?” or even “How does an air fryer work?”.

Well, they're pretty big questions, so let’s see if we can help a little.

What can you cook in an air fryer?

While we can’t tell you everything you can cook in an air fryer (that would take a while!), we can let you know some of the most popular choices and a few things you may not have thought of.

  • Fries and chips
  • Roast potatoes
  • Chicken (Fried, roasted or grilled)
  • Fish (Such as salmon, cod and haddock)
  • Tofu
  • Vegetables (Great for any vegetables you would usually roast or grill.)
  • Burgers
  • Bacon
  • Jacket potatoes
  • Pork Chops
  • Steak
  • Onion Rings
  • Desserts ( Great for cakes, muffins, doughnuts and more)

With a Russell Hobbs Air Fryer, chips are fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside, chicken is deliciously moist and juicy, and salmon fillets retain their delicate flavour. You can roast veg, cook burgers and even enjoy sweet treats.

Need a little inspiration? Our resident chef, Tom, has plenty of air fryer recipes to share with you ideas for how you can use yours. Here’s one of his favourite recipes:

How does an air fryer work?

An air fryer is like a mini convection oven. Food is placed in the basket or tray and placed inside the air fryer. A heating element in the air fryer generates heat, and a fan rapidly circulates the hot air all around your food. This creates a crispy, fried-like texture on the outside of the food, while the inside remains moist and tender. This also helps to preserve certain nutrients that can be lost during other cooking processes.

Unlike deep frying, which uses a lot of oil, an air fryer only requires a small amount of oil, usually just a tablespoon or less. This makes it a healthier cooking option for those who want to enjoy fried food without the excess oil and calories.

In these days of soaring energy prices, it’s good to know that an air fryer can replace the work of a standard oven for everyday teatime treats, quick snacks or cosy suppers. Using an air fryer is time-saving and most importantly, energy efficient! Our Satisfry collection can save up to 68% energy* compared to a conventional oven. It cooks faster while using less energy than a conventional oven as you don’t need to let your air fryer warm up first – just switch it on, choose the setting you want and let it do its thing.

The Satisfry range also has an intuitive design, meaning each one is easy to use allowing you to set it to the time and cooking function you require at the touch of a button. Pre-set functions mean you don’t have to think too much about how to cook your food - so even if you’re not a confident cook, an air fryer will make everything taste just right.

Once the cooking is over, the air fryer is easy to clean with a dishwasher safe** removable crisping plate and basket. We think air fryers make lunch, dinner and snack times easier than ever and they could help you reduce your calorie intake overall because you won’t need to add fat or oil. What’s not to love?

“Yes, you can!”

So, if you’re looking for a healthy, convenient way to cook your favourite fried food whilst saving time and money, here’s some good news. The Russell Hobbs Satisfry Air Fryer Collection can help you to enjoy a whole host of “fried foods” using just hot air, with little to no oil required.
