Plates for Change
We are excited to share the winners of our Plates For Change campaign – our UK-wide competition which is important part of our partnership with the global charity Action Against Hunger. Addressing primary schools across the country, the campaign provided free educational materials to help teachers spark meaningful discussions in the classroom and at home, before inviting pupils to design and submit plates reflecting these learnings.
“We were thrilled to see a total of 552 primary schools across the UK engaging in our campaign,” Alastair Scott, Brand Manager at Russell Hobbs, said. “It shows the important role that Action Against Hunger brings in educating children about good nutrition and the challenges of global food poverty, and it's great that we can use the partnership to really bring this to life in the classroom in a fun and engaging way."
Plates for Change Winners

St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Staffordshire took first place, with Brocks Hill Primary School in Leicester and Sandwich Junior School in Kent as runners-up. The winners were selected following a rigorous judging process by former Great British Bake-Off alumna Crystelle Pereira, MasterChef favourite Monica Galetti, Byron Martinez, Senior Digital Designer Spectrum Brands, as well as Alexandra Rutishauser-Perera at Action Against Hunger and Lorraine Fountain at premium food brand Tenderstem. This judging panel assessed a total of 941 individual plate submissions, evaluating each design for creativity, visual appeal and understanding of the importance of nutrition.
Monica Galetti

“I’m so excited to work with Action Against Hunger and Russell Hobbs on Plates for Change,” Monica Galetti said. “The campaign not only teaches practical cooking skills but also opens young people’s eyes to the wider issues of food poverty around the world. I’m proud to support a campaign that empowers the next generation to think differently about food.”
